CHOCTAW AND CHICKASAW EARLY CENSUS RECORDS
By Betty C. Wiltshire

These records will be a valuable aid in the difficult research of early indian ancestors in Mississippi. It includes the 1831 census of the Choctaws which was made just prior to their removal to the Oklahoma Territory. It names the head of family and the number in the family divided into age groups, but doesn't name individual family members. It also specifies captains of districts and whites living in the indian territory, and gives the number of slaves (unnamed) they owned.

The 1837 and 1839 Chickasaw census' names heads of families, with the number of males and females divided into age groups. The number of slaves included on the originals of both, but only the 1839 slave counts are included in this book.
